Welcome to Beijing Palace

Pilestredet 27, 0164 Oslo, Norway

General Info

Tucked along Pilestredet 27, 0164 Oslo, Norway, Beijing Palace is a welcoming spot for anyone craving authentic dim sum in the heart of the city. The restaurant has the relaxed atmosphere of a neighborhood diner, yet it still feels polished and well organized. From the moment you step inside, the vibe is easygoing, making it a comfortable place whether you're meeting friends for lunch or settling in for a slow dinner.

The menu focuses on classic dim sum flavors and shareable plates. Small plates arrive steadily at the table, which makes the experience feel social and interactive. Ordering several dishes to taste and share is clearly the way to go here. Each plate is designed for casual dining, allowing guests to explore different textures and flavors throughout the meal rather than sticking to just one main course.

One highlight that caught my attention during my visit was the Pilsnerøl. It’s a refreshing choice that pairs surprisingly well with the dim sum menu. The crisp, light character of the drink balances savory bites and makes the whole meal feel even more relaxed. It’s the kind of drink you’ll likely order again while lingering over conversation.

Service is another reason many reviews of Beijing Palace speak positively about the place. The staff provide attentive table service without being intrusive. Plates arrive smoothly, and the pacing feels comfortable, so you never feel rushed. At the same time, the team seems genuinely happy to guide guests through the menu or suggest combinations of small plates.

Another pleasant surprise is the coffee and dessert selection. After a table full of savory dishes, finishing the meal with a sweet treat and a warm cup of coffee feels just right. The desserts are simple but satisfying, and they add a cozy ending to the dining experience.

Beyond the food and drinks, Beijing Palace stands out for creating an inclusive and respectful environment. The restaurant openly supports being a transgender safespace, which contributes to the friendly and welcoming mood that many visitors notice as soon as they walk in.

Located centrally in Oslo, Beijing Palace is easy to reach and convenient for both locals and visitors exploring nearby streets. The combination of shareable dim sum plates, relaxed service, refreshing Pilsnerøl, and thoughtful hospitality makes it a comfortable place to return to again and again. Whether you’re exploring new flavors or simply looking for a dependable dim sum restaurant in the area, the experience here feels genuine and enjoyable from start to finish.

“ Came with my family to enjoy a dinner. Was welcomed at the door and seated immediately, good first impression of staff and locale. Was helped to ordering from the rather large menu of Dim sum, sushi and other Chinese/Asian dishes from head waiter. Food was vibrant in colors, taste was really showing us the best of these dishes. All made to order, fresh produce all over. Beijing Palace has a wide list of wines by the glass, as well as a gem of a cellar list (by the bottle), giving the wine aficionados the chance to taste the best of Burgundy, Bordeaux and other reigning regions paired to each dish. Recommended, we will definitely be coming back for more. ”

“ Maybe my all time favorite restaurant in Oslo. Great food, excellent wine list and wonderful staff. Pro tip: let them suggest the food. I’ve never been disappointed ”

“ Enjoyed the dim sum meny! Great value. Only one dish that wasn't for my taste, but everything else was perfect. So many wines to choose from. In all price classes. We went for an Pinot Noir from Anthill. Good value. Service was great. Met with a smile and everyone was very polite and checked up on us during the meal. ”

“ Dinner here tonight came as a total and pleasant surprise. We were six and opted for the dim sum tasting menu. This was about the best Chinese food I have wnjoyed outside that country! Friendly, efficient and courteous service The biggest surprise of all was the pure excellence of their wine list... not at all typical for a Chinese restaurant. Its mastery of wine is such that it has opened a wine bar next door that offers an astounding selection of wines in self serve dispensers. I will certainly return and recommend you give it a try. ”

“ Really delicious food and fantastic service, second time there and will definitely come back again ”

“ Came with a friend, we both ordered a crispy duck. Food was decent and was even good——better than I expected. The waitress, probably also the owner, was kind of curt and dismissive, to say the least. But she’s not just curt and dismissive to me, but rather equally so to everyone, so I guess that’s just her personality or ways of dealing with people in general. In the beginning, it felt a bit uncomfortable. But at the same time you have to admit her succinctness has led to better efficiency. She’s quite responsive when we need extra sauce for our duck. And maybe that’s also why the bathroom is spotlessly clean. Hardworking, efficient, yet a bit on the verge of being a bit rude. All in all, if you’re familiar with the typical Chinese/Asian working class culture, this place has something very close to some sort of “tough love” family atmosphere. Will consider coming back for the duck. ”

“ The place to visit if you love Dim Sum! A bit hidden from “passing eyes”, but the quality and service inside is not hidden, it’s very much ‘present’. Amazing dim sum followed by nice selection of wine paired with the different dim sum’s! ”

- Sveinung Skjeggestad -

“ Decent dim sum, good service. There is better dim sum in Oslo, but this is still solid. My favorites were the roast pork buns, lotus seed buns, and the tofu skin rolls. ”
